Its strategic location adjacent to the main entrance to the Hoge Kempen National Park gives the site a special attraction.

Regionaal Landschap Kempen en Maasland will, in collaboration with MVDC, develop an ambitious programme based on edutainment allowing the visitor to indulge in the rich local and European biodiversity as well as unique flora and fauna of the site through an interactive experience.

Other elements of the programme are a visitor reception centre, and a sustainable people mover concept. This unique ride will bring visitors all the way up to the long terril where they can enjoy spectacular views over the site.

The National Park is the only National Park in Belgium. This green lung of 5700 hectares extends over the Limburg municipalities As, Dilsen-Stokkem, Genk, Zutendaal, Lanaken, Maasmechelen and bordering Opglabbeek. With its pine forests, lakes, moorlands, rare plants and animals the National Park is a paradise for nature lovers, hikers, equestrians and cyclists.

Six gateways
To explore The National Park, it's best to do so from one of the six gateways. Each with Infopoint, parking, brasserie and attractions for the whole family. And each with its own theme, so you discover the National Park, six different times! The 6 Gateways are Mechelse Heide in Maasmechelen, Pietersheim in Lanaken, Kattevennen in Genk, Station of As en Lieteberg in Zutendaal, and most recently: Connecterra, situated within the domain of Terhills at Maasmechelen.

Connecterra (Terhills), Zetellaan 54, 3630 Maasmechelen
